Sheesh!!! I can't believe how long it's been since I posted. I am on my Friends page every day - sometimes more than once - but I seem to let so much time go by before I say two words myself. I've always been afraid of putting my own thoughts and ideas out for everyone to see. Have to start using this as a place to let my thoughts run away with me.

There has been so much out there recently regarding censorship and what is going on here. I agree with many of you that this is a community of like minded people who are all interested in the same things. Only those of us here should worry about what goes in our journals. They are for us to see. It may have to be that we all Friends-lock our journals so that not everything is public to everyone. I'd hate to think that it would come to that.

I guess we do have to be aware that there are unscrupulous people who would use journals in the wrong way. Those definitely should be censored. And, perhaps using characters definitely underage in compromising ways may be offensive to many. But, then, they don't have to go there and read it. Pedophiles are definitely predators who need to be stopped and if we think that someone is using LJ in that way, maybe we should be aware of the dangers there. However, most of us are just crazy about the people we read and write about and think of them in loving ways. What is the harm in that?

I'm interested in all the discussions going on and would love to hear people's thoughts. My feeling is that we are all adults - I think - and who is to tell us what we can and cannot read or write. Who decides? If you don't like it, don't read it. We should all make the choices for ourselves.

In case you all leave here, I've opened up a GreatestJournal so I don't lose all of you and your wonderful writing.

It's sad that this even has to occur *sighs* I definitely think LJ has not done a very good job in handling this at all, but it makes me so crazy angry that I just keep it all to myself *g* ;)

What concerns me most is that any decision about what is or isn't acceptable in fic or piece of art is being made by a bunch of people where we don't know where they're coming from. It's objective and I don't like that. What if the person who looks at a fic of mine decides they can't stand slash? And therefore deems it unacceptable? And don't even get me started on how the report abuse button could be abused! (where's the button for the abuse of the abuse button? *g*

Anyhoo! :D I'm just going to keep posting and posting publicly as I always because that's the way I think it should be :D if LJ disagrees well then ... I've got my GJ account :D

Just sucks that LJ had to do this because they had a pretty great thing going and I really like it here :D / ramble *g* :D

You're right, of course. Who decides what is unacceptable? And what if someone, just for the heck of it, decides to hit the abuse button on every story they read on a given day? We do have to be sensible and not post things that might be searched by kids - like Harry Potter. 9 year olds search that. And how do you get to respond and defend yourself against the abuse report? It opens up a whole can of worms.

I think what really bothered me most was LJ's just automatic and absolute deletion of the two accounts. I may not have seen the pictures that caused the problem - if I did who knows what i would have thought of them - but I don't think it's right that LJ couldn't say "hey, we have a problem with this. Either remove it of Friendslock it or we're going to delete you and all of your other accounts, even the one with paid time." I mean really? would it have been so hard for them to do that? Not that doing so wouldn't have caused wank anyway but still - kind of heavy-handed if you ask me.

And yeah, that abuse button ... all it takes is one person with a vendetta or a bad day or whatever ...

sorry i'm rambling again hehehe! It's just too bad that LJ didn't do a better job of handling it - they don't want to set clear-cut policies because it's easier to be subjective and make whatever decision you want when you don't *g*. Makes me crazy -er *g* (Sorry if this doesn't make sense - it's late *g*) :D
